The imposing nine storey building of the Aerostar Hotel was constructed in 1991 at the site nearby Petrovsky Palace, a magnificent red brick structure once favored by the Tsars as a place to ease their journey between Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the new history of Democratic Russia the Aerostar Hotel was one of the first joint ventures (Russian-Canadian) in the field of hospitality business which offered to its guests the Western hotel standards and started providing comfortable, reasonably priced accommodation with excellent on-site facilities.

Since the 1930s the airfield has played annual host to Aviation Day festivities, held on the third weekend in August.
